“There are many superstitious seers in Pyongyang. There is no use in believing in the Juche ideology. People from outside come to Pyongyang to tell fortunes. Young people, merchants, high-ranking officials who want to be promoted, and wives of officials come to seek the fortune-telling. With the increase of people suddenly being cut off in Pyongyang, more people have come running to seek fortune-telling because they are curious about the future. People would frequently ask questions such as, ‘Will my husband lose his job,’ ‘Will I live a better life in the future,’ and etc.” This report by the Daily NK was constructed by interviewing multiple residents in Pyongyang. We pray that the North Koreans, who are willing to rely on superstitions in hopes of eliminating their anxiety about the future, will forsake their idols and return to God.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
God, who spoke to us not to worry but to pray, there are many North Koreans who are blindly following superstition in the fear of an unclear future. Please have mercy on humans who are like grass and flowers that exist for a moment and vanish and like jars of clay that are fragile. May they come to know who you are, Lord, and believe in what you have done so that they may hold onto the Almighty God and not false idols.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
