[Prayer] Forcing bribes in the name of cleaning up corruption
North Korea proclaimed a war on corruption last December. It was argued that it would be difficult to accept it at face value. A North Korean woman quoted by the Free Asia Broadcasting (RFA) says the North Korean authorities are trying to crack down on seemingly corrupt senior officials or corrupt safety agents, but they are actually trying to take away money from individuals who have become rich through business. In the name of cleaning up corruption, they strengthen crackdown, demand loyalty funds and force bribes. Therefore, the lives of the residents are hard, and corruption, rooted in life, does not disappear.
We pray that the evil deed of the North Korean authorities, which is to increase the pressure upon their residents through the invalid war against corruption, would stop.
“You levy a straw tax on the poor and impose a tax on their grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.”
Amos 5:11
