[Prayer] North Koreans suffering from natural disasters
Germanwatch, a Germany’s environmental group said North Korea is the most vulnerable to natural disasters in the world and that the climate risk index is more than 20 times that of South Korea. According to the statistics of the group, the total number of natural disasters in North Korea since 1992 is about 40, resulting in 77 deaths per year. It is reported that 3.6 percent of GDP is lost every time there is a natural disaster, and the damage that a resident get is also the fifth largest in the world.
In addition, Germanwatch reported that North Korea’s lack of response and recovery to the natural disasters and the lack of support for the affected population could lead to greater economic losses than other countries in the event of a natural disaster of the same magnitude. Prayer is needed for North Koreans who are suffering from huge damage to their lives and property every year because they cannot cope with climate change such as drought, typhoon and flood.
