[Prayer] Protect North Korean women from sexual abuse
The real condition of sexual violence in North Korea has turned out to be serious. Human Rights Watch (HRW), an international non-governmental organization that conducts research and advocacy on human rights, said in a report titled, “You Cry at Night but Don’t Know Why: Sexual Violence against Women in North Korea,” North Korean women are being subjected to sexual crimes not only at the detention facility but also in public place. The perpetrators are mainly the party officials and security guards who commit a sexual crime or sexual assault in the rehabilitation center, detention center, gathering house, market place, train, and so on. In North Korea, sexual violence is common so nobody seems to care about it. People normally cover up a sexual crime because they would be hurt if they make an accusation. Prayer is needed to stop the evil deeds of abandoning the woman’s right that should be respected by abusing the power of government authority. Also, we need to pray for an environment, where the suffering North Korean women can be protected, to be provided institutionally.
In Hebrews 13:4, God says, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” He also says in Proverbs 6:32, “But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroy himself.” I lift up the people of North Korea who don’t understand sexual violence as a sin. Please protect North Korean women from sexual abuse when they are engaged in economic activities or escape from North Korea. May the bitter cry of Damal, who was sexually assaulted by his half-brother Amnon and spent her whole life in shame, be no longer heard in the land of North Korea. In addition, may the men, who exploit women by using power and status, disappear. May the North be sanctified by the word of God, and be a holy nation, dressed only with the Lord Jesus Christ.
