[Prayer] May the Generational and Regional Differences Trigger a Change in North Korea

The gap between North Korea’s old and new generation, and the gap between Pyongyang and other provinces have been increasing. In Pyongyang, where the government party and the privileged group live, the residents submit to Kim Jong Un due to the implementation of partial food ration. However, in the provinces, where the ration has been disrupted a long time ago, the percentage of residents supporting the current regime is low. Among the gap between Pyongyang and other provinces, there are also differences between the old generation that have experienced the food ration and the new generation that have no experience of it. Oh Jung-sung, a 25 years old soldier at the Joint Security Area stated, “It is impossible to have ideological control over North Korea’s young generation”. Even though Oh Jung-sung decided to defect to North Korea after watching and listening to South Korean movies and music early on, he said he was hesitant because of his father who is a government official. Another young man, who recently returned to Samcheok Port, said he was concerned about the punishment for watching South Korean movies.

There are many changes taking place in North Korea, due to the differences between the regions and the generations. This is because 90% of the local people and the younger generation are being exposed to foreign culture and becoming dissatisfied with the regime while the Kim family is focusing on Pyongyang and nuclear weapons, which are only 10% of the total population. Lord, we pray that there would be an increase in people’s awareness, not to be confined to worldly material or pleasures, but to seek you, Lord. We pray that you will lead them to true salvation. Also, we pray that the building of the tower of humanism, communism, and idolatry will be stopped as you have done with the tower of Babel.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

“Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.” Genesis 11:7-8
