[Prayer] Steep Mountain Slope Farming Can Lead to Flood Damage

A report states that a severe drought will continue due to the average North Korean rainfall being only 42% in common years. However, according to the results of the collected data near the north, by the <Seoul-Pyongyang News>, some of the provinces including Yangkang, Jagang, and North Pyeongan, did not show any significant drought and there were no signs of fields being watered. However, the rate of clearing the mountainous areas in the border area has increased markedly, and the crops have been planted up to the peak of high mountains. These slopes that they have turned into farming fields, can collapse in rainy weather. We pray that North Korea’s food situation will improve and that excessive steep fields will not lead to landslides.

“Who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free;” Relying on Psalm 146:7, Lord, we lift up to you the hardships of North Koreans having to even use the top of the mountains to plant grains. Some reports say that North Korea’s food production is at its lowest level in a decade, while other reports say that food support is unnecessary because the price of rice is declining. The exact situation is unknown, but it can be assumed that there is a great deal of pressure on food, given the fact that the percentage of cultivating the slopes of mountains are increasing. Also, if more mountains are becoming bare due to the reckless clearing, landslides can occur during heavy rains. Lord, we pray that you would protect the North Korean people from food shortage and flood.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
